💸 Airport Mistakes That Are Quietly Draining Your Wallet

In partnership with

Morning, Travelers! ☕✈️

Airports love to nickel-and-dime us - $8 waters, $200 bag fees, parking that costs more than your flight. But you're smarter than that! Here's how to beat their sneaky fees and keep your cash.

💸 Airport Mistakes That Are Quietly Draining Your Wallet

🚗 Overpaying for Parking
Airport lots are often the most expensive option. Use online prepaid airport parking for better deals. Save big by using off-site parking just a few miles away, often with free shuttles. Some spots near major airports go for as low as $5/day. Arrive early to avoid being forced into premium spots.

🧳 Underestimating Checked Bag Fees
Bag fees add up fast—$35 for the first, $45+ for the second, and sometimes $200 for a third. Pack light, prepay online (for discounts), and always weigh your bags at home to dodge oversized fees.

💧 Buying Bottled Water
Airport water is shockingly overpriced. Bring a reusable bottle and use the filtered water stations post-security. It’s cheaper and better for the environment.

🛍️ Impulse Shopping
Airport shops aren’t deal havens. Duty-free isn't always cheaper—prices vary by gate or terminal. Avoid browsing out of boredom and compare online if you must buy.

🚫 Carry-On Mistakes
Know TSA rules—liquids over 3.4 oz will be tossed. Also, pack essential items (like chargers or meds) in your carry-on in case of delays or lost luggage.

🍫 Overpaying for Snacks
In-flight snacks can cost more. Buy TSA-friendly options ahead of time or grab something by your gate, not onboard.

🚗 Expensive Car Rentals
Airport rental counters = higher prices. Use Costco, Sam’s Club, or compare rates via CarRentals.com. Nearby rental locations may offer better deals.

🚌 Skipping Public Transit
Taxis and Ubers are convenient, but public transport is often way cheaper. Do a quick Google search or ask at an info desk.

💳 Missing Free Perks
Check if your credit card or airline status offers lounge access, meals, or Wi-Fi—you might already be eligible.

💼 No Emergency Budget
Travel disruptions are common. Always budget for unexpected meals, hotel stays, or flight changes—just in case.
