Royal Caribbean Cancels Haiti Stop Amid Safety Concerns

Royal Caribbean has temporarily removed Labadee, its private beach resort in Haiti, from its cruise itineraries due to growing safety concerns. Citing “an abundance of caution,” the cruise line paused visits in response to escalating gang violence and political instability in the country.

The decision affects one of the cruise line’s popular Caribbean destinations, known for its beaches and family-friendly activities. The U.S. Department of State currently rates Haiti at Level 4 “Do Not Travel” due to crime, kidnappings, civil unrest, and limited emergency services.

Royal Caribbean previously suspended visits to Labadee last summer for similar reasons and has not announced when, or if, the destination will be reinstated.

Spirit Airlines Named Best U.S. Airline for 2025

Budget carrier Spirit Airlines has been ranked the best overall U.S. airline for 2025 by WalletHub, scoring highest in safety and affordability. Despite its no-frills reputation, Spirit beat out major airlines like Delta and JetBlue in a study that evaluated 11 carriers across 14 metrics, including baggage, delays, comfort, and animal incidents. Spirit was also named the safest and most affordable airline, while Delta ranked as most reliable. Experts note improving on-time performance is key for future rankings. Spirit recently expanded its U.S. routes, though extra fees still apply for baggage and services.

TRAVEL TIP
How To Calm Anxiety During Turbulence

Turbulence is a normal part of flying, but it can trigger anxiety for many passengers. Flight attendants recommend focusing on the facts: planes are built to handle turbulence, and pilots are highly trained to navigate it. Understanding the science behind turbulence can help ease fears.

Calming techniques like deep breathing, meditation, and mindfulness are effective tools. Distractions such as music, movies, or conversation can also shift focus away from anxiety. If you're prone to nausea, asking for an ice pack for your neck can help.

Flight attendants encourage passengers to speak up if they're feeling anxious—they’re trained to provide reassurance and support. Listening to pilot announcements and, if possible, switching to a seat near the wings (where turbulence feels milder) can also help.

Lastly, self-care before the flight—like staying hydrated and coming prepared with snacks or entertainment can make a big difference. Remember: you're in safe, professional hands.

AIRPORT HACK
Save Up to 2 Hours Flying Home from Europe with This Airport Hack

Travelers flying from Dublin to the U.S. can save up to two hours by using the airport’s U.S. Preclearance facility in Terminal 2. This unique setup allows passengers to complete U.S. Customs and TSA security before boarding their flight, so they arrive in the U.S. as domestic passengers, skipping customs upon arrival.

The process involves standard customs declarations and is available to both Global Entry and non-Global Entry travelers. Though it requires slightly more time at departure (Dublin Airport recommends arriving three hours early), the time saved upon arrival is significant. The service is popular among frequent flyers and has made Dublin one of the most convenient and affordable airports for U.S.-bound flights in Europe.

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED!
Why Flight Attendants Won’t Lift Your Carry-On Into Overhead Bin?

Flight attendants won’t lift passengers’ carry-on bags into the overhead bin primarily due to safety concerns and job limitations. Their role does not include heavy lifting, and doing so could lead to serious injury. Since many travelers exceed the standard carry-on weight limit—often unknowingly—flight attendants can’t accurately judge how heavy a bag might be. Repeatedly lifting heavy luggage for dozens or even hundreds of passengers each day can cause strain, especially to the shoulders and back, potentially sidelining them from work and risking their income. Some airlines have policies allowing attendants to assist if a passenger helps lift the bag, but even then, they are not required to do the lifting on their own. In short, it’s a safety issue, not a lack of willingness—and travelers are advised to pack lighter or seek help from fellow passengers instead.
